Houdini’s Odyssey Chapter 1. Building a Greek Temple

In order to learn something new, a good approach is to go hands-on: assign a project and manage to finish it. It’s important not to start with something too hard though, as it can discourage and ruin the learning frenzy quite fast. For Houdini, it seems wise to start with modeling: it will help understand how Houdini manages geometries and will not tackle multiple topics like simulations would do (geometries+dynamics is too much).

So I decided to start with a Greek temple for multiple reasons: I have already a little knowledge on those as I was passionate about Ancient Greece when I was a child, plus, those constructions are heavily geometric which means that there will be some ‘easy’ things to do in the beginning to start getting used to the software. On top of that, temples from Ancient Greece have multiple styles so that’s a good way to push me to have an architecture modular enough to allow some ‘switch’ between those styles. Without further discussion, let’s get started!
